That are worth checking out.Īs far as third party goes, there are still some nice gems to be found on this console, but the PS1 was all around better in this department.

Of course Sega has some really nice original games for the system as well. There are also a few nice light games on the system as well. Sega also did a great job porting a lot of their own 3D fighters over to the Saturn, But their arcade racing game ports were pretty hit or miss. The Saturn was a much better console to look at if you are interested in 2D fighters (it has a huge library in Japan that used the various RAM cartridges), 2D vertical and horizontal shooters and 2D JRPG's. But this was also a sign of the times, as 2D platformers were a bit toxic on the 32bit systems and nobody really wanted to make them outside of a few studios. There were still some nice platformers on the console, but to me its library felt lackluster to what was previously available from the 16bit generation of consoles. 2D platformers were not what they could have been. To help remedy this, we have collected 10 of the best Sega Saturn games that never left Japan. With the West only seeing 258 games out of a total of 1,265 released in Japan, you can be sure that there were many great games we never got to experience. The Saturn was nice hardware for 2D gaming for its time, but I still felt like it was lacking in some 2D genres. RELATED: Sega Announces New Handheld Game Gear Micro. Is this console just fondly remembered? Does the nostalgia blur peoples memories of this thing? I just want to see honest opinions about this console, not clouded by memories of Panzer Dragoon. This thing may as well have not existed when I was growing up. Honestly, in my memory, the word of mouth on this thing must have just not existed, because back then all I can remember is constant debate about which was better - 64 or the PlayStation. But they were far and few between, and honestly nobody I knew back then was speaking about this thing (in AU) having must play games. The tl dr is that it was difficult to develop for. The Saturn architecture is often discussed, so I'm not gonna go into it. To be fair though, this just comes down to taste. Unless the art-design was on point, the games generally looked bad. We know this thing excelled when it came to 2D games, but the 3D games were pretty off. Visually, the games were all over the shop. SEGA SATURN ACTION REPLAY JAPANESE GAMES PRO
I don't get how Sega got this part of the console so wrong. Pro Action Replay: Plays any country's Saturn game on any country's Saturn console. The Nintendo 64, and particularly the PlayStation looked leagues better, being released in the same time frame. Neither the US/EU or JP versions looked any good.they were just big boxes. It was an awkward phase in home entertainment device design, and the Saturn really didn't fair so well.
